P2P
File sharing is when files would be shared over the internet from one computer to another. P2P, which stands for peer-to-peer, file sharing is the sharing of digital media over P2P network technology. Some examples of P2P file sharing are Gnutella, LimeWire, FrostWire, eMule, BearShare and etc. Growing up I remember LimeWire being one of the most accessible file-sharing technology for me. It was an easy way to get music and movies for free considering music streaming platforms such as Spotify weren't as big back then. The same thing goes for Netflix as well, these streaming services weren't as big as they are now. So people needed a way to access music, books, movies and tv shows without it being a huge expense. These days because of services like Spotify, Hulu, Netflix, Kindle, and etc there's been a decrease in the use of file-sharing but it is still very common. One thing that is very common and consistent to this day is piracy. According to the article, "Digital Pirates Winning Battle With Studios," by Brian Stelter and Brad Stone, with the arrival of "The Dark Knight" in theaters which was a very big deal in the Batman franchise, the Warner Brothers thought that they had it all planned with an antipiracy campaign. But when it came to the release of the movie, the campaign had failed miserably because by the end of the year there were over seven million downloads of illegal copies of the movie. This means that the company had incurred a huge loss because of online piracy.
