Many people around the world are talented in so many ways and really didn't have a way to show their creativity for several decades. Due to new media arising, in this digital age people all over are able to put themselves on the internet and show what they're able to do. With computers and the internet being easily accessible, you no longer have to just view media but instead be able to create it yourself. This is one of the reasons why mashups are of such importance. Song mashups have been occurring for many years now, but the only difference is with the right software and skills anyone is able to create mashups. You're able to create mashups from your own bedroom without having to go to a studio and that is because of the internet. According to the article, "The New Math of Mashups," by Sasha Frere-Jones, in 2003, using digital software, "Jeremy Brown was able to isolate instrumental elements from a song by Beck" and was able to add "live drums and human beat-box noises that he recorded all from his small house in Long Island City". Creating mashups has been a trend on youtube for a very long time now and has started careers for many people. Kurt Hugo Schneider who has over ten million subscribers on youtube for his mashups and medleys is an example of one of the creators who has made a name for himself among the music industry.
